I woke up with Max, my German Shepard/Husky mix at 6 am this morning as usual. Everything was normal until I went to let him out and found that the backdoor was open. Not fully open, just slightly open. I paused, then quickly did a quick search of my home with Max underfoot. I checked on my kids, my laptop, camera, TV and other valuables and found nothing out of place. But I couldn't shake the feeling that someone besides me had noticed that my door was not closed all night long. Perhaps it was due to the late night television that I watch on Wednesday nights that caused my fear. The stories on Criminal Minds and CSI have to come from some true, if not Hollwoodized, scenario. I know how to protect myself, I do have a gun in my home, but my children are so innocent and helpless. If anything were to happen to them...
It is difficult in the summer when it is warm to not open up my windows. I need and crave that cooler night air. But perhaps I will have to rethink that whole situation for the saftey of my family.
